Privacy Policy
Outgoing has no accounts. Your challenge log lives on your phone, we never ask for your name or email, and the little that does leave your phone is listed here in full.
Stays on Your Phone
Your challenge log, the notes you write, your courage ratings, your streak and grace days, and your settings. We can’t see them and we don’t back them up.
Leaves Your Phone
Usage analytics tied to a random identifier, feedback you choose to send, and purchase records if you subscribe to Premium.
Never Happens
No ads, no selling or renting your data, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across other apps or sites, and no access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone or GPS location.
Who we are
Outgoing is made by Camellia Studios LLC, 5830 E 2nd St, Ste 7000 #25591, Casper, WY 82609, USA (“we”, “us”). We decide how the data described here is used, and you can reach us about any of it at support@camellia.studio.
What stays on your phone
The app works without an account and without a server of ours. These are stored only in the app’s storage on your device:
- Your challenge log: the quests you’ve done, when, and the 1–10 courage rating you stamped on each.
- The notes you write on a quest. The text of a note never leaves your phone.
- Your streak, grace days, boldness, level, milestones and place on the road.
- Your onboarding answers and settings, including your reminder time and the dials for the daily deal.
- Your own copy of any feedback you’ve sent and our replies.
Because there is no account, this data is not synced or backed up by us. On iPhone it is included in your own device backups (iCloud or a computer) if you use them; on Android it is excluded from cloud backups. If you delete the app or use Settings → Delete everything on this device, it is gone for good and we can’t restore it.
What leaves your phone
Usage analytics
The app sends usage events to PostHog, our analytics provider, so we can see what’s working and what isn’t. Events are tied to a random identifier that the app creates on your phone, not to your name, email or any advertising identifier. It is still information about one person’s use of the app, so we treat it as personal data. The events cover:
- Your onboarding answers. The options you tap on the welcome questions: who you want to become, where you spend your time, what already feels doable, what tends to get in the way, when you’d like your quest, and where you heard about Outgoing. These are multiple-choice taps, not typed text, and none of them asks about your health.
- What you do with quests. Which quest you opened, swapped for a smaller one, were dealt or completed, its boldness, your 1–10 courage rating, and your running totals: quests done, streak, level and boldness. Also the dials you set for the daily deal, which are kinds of place such as “coffee shops” or “work or campus”, never an actual location.
- That a note was saved, and how long it was. Never what it says.
- How you use the rest of the app. App opens, a tap on the daily reminder, reminder choices (on or off, the time you picked, whether you allowed notifications), packs you open and cards you skip or pick, the You and Level screens, level-ups and milestones, that a share was completed (not what was shared or where), and that you used Delete everything.
- Premium steps. That the Premium screen was shown, which plan you selected, and whether a purchase was started, completed, cancelled, restored or failed (with the store’s error code). Never payment details.
- Device and app details. Device model and manufacturer, operating system and version, app version and build, screen size, language and region setting, and time zone.
- Your country, but not your IP address. Like any internet request, events arrive with your IP address. PostHog uses it only to work out which country you are in, then discards it: the address itself is not stored, and no city, postal area or coordinates are recorded. The app never asks for location permission and never reads GPS.
PostHog also keeps a small profile against the same random identifier with the slow-moving facts from the list above: your onboarding answers, where you started on the road, quests done, streak, level, whether the reminder is on, and whether you have Premium. We use it to compare groups of people, for example whether people who start further along the road keep going.
The app does not record your screen, capture what you type, or include crash-reporting or advertising SDKs. There is no analytics switch in the app today. If you’d rather not be included, email support@camellia.studio with your analytics identifier and we’ll delete what we hold; uninstalling stops all further collection.
Feedback you send
If you use Send feedback, the title, details and category you write are sent to us through the same analytics channel, together with the identifier and device details above, so we can read it, fix the bug and reply. Feedback is not tied to your name, but we read every word, so please don’t include personal information you wouldn’t want us to see. Sending feedback is always optional.
Replies and app configuration
The app regularly asks PostHog for a small configuration file: our replies to feedback, the oldest app version we still support, and limits such as how many fresh deals are free each day. The request carries your analytics identifier. Replies are published to every copy of the app under a random reference number, and each phone shows only the replies to its own feedback, so we never put personal details in a reply.
Purchases
Premium is optional. Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, which handle your payment; we never see your card or billing details. We use RevenueCat to confirm your subscription and unlock Premium. RevenueCat receives a random app user identifier it creates, your purchase records from the store (product, dates, renewal status, price, currency and storefront country), your IP address as part of the request, and basic technical details such as platform, operating system and app version. We don’t link the RevenueCat identifier to your analytics identifier; analytics only records whether Premium is active.
Reminders
The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your phone at the time you pick. There is no push server and no notification token is collected. The wording of a reminder can reflect your onboarding answers, and it is composed on your device.
Sharing, ratings and links
When you share a quest or your progress, the app hands a short piece of text to your phone’s share sheet; what you do with it, and the app you send it through, is between you and that app. The occasional “rate the app” prompt is shown by Apple or Google, and any review you leave goes to them. Links to this site, the stores or your email app open outside Outgoing.
If you email support@camellia.studio, we receive your address and whatever you write, and keep the conversation so we can help you. We don’t add you to a mailing list, and neither the app nor this site collects email addresses.
On this site
getoutgoing.com also uses PostHog, under a random visitor id that is never linked to an app install, to learn which pages and store links work. It records page views, clicks and taps on the page, whether you scrolled or stayed, store-badge clicks, the link that brought you here (the referring page and any campaign tags in the address), your browser, device type and screen size, and your country, worked out from your IP address and then discarded the same way as in the app. It does not record your screen, and the site has no forms to type into.
To recognise a returning visit, PostHog sets a first-party cookie and uses your browser’s local storage, and we store the campaign tags from your first visit in local storage. There are no advertising or third-party cookies and no cross-site tracking. You can clear or block these in your browser and the site works the same. The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes IP addresses and request logs in order to serve pages and keep them secure.
How we use it
- To run the app: unlock Premium, deliver our replies, and tell you when an update is required.
- To understand how the app and the site are used, find and fix bugs, and decide what to build next.
- To read, act on and answer your feedback and email.
- To meet legal obligations and protect against fraud or abuse.
We don’t use your data for advertising, don’t build profiles across other apps or sites, don’t sell or rent it, and don’t make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. The only tailoring is inside the app: your onboarding answers choose your first quest and the tone of your reminders, on your device.
Who receives it
Only the service providers that run these features for us, under contracts that stop them using the data for their own purposes:
- PostHog (United States): analytics, feedback and configuration for the app and this site. Privacy policy.
- RevenueCat (United States): subscription status. Privacy policy.
- Vercel (United States): hosting for this site. Privacy policy.
- Our email provider, for messages you send to us.
Apple and Google process your purchases, downloads and reviews under their own privacy policies, as independent companies rather than on our behalf. Beyond that, we would disclose information only if the law requires it (a subpoena, court order or similar), or as part of a merger or sale of Camellia Studios LLC or the app, in which case this policy would continue to apply to the data and we would post a notice here.
Where it is processed
Your log stays on your device. The data described above is processed in the United States by the providers listed. If you use Outgoing from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, that data is transferred to the US under the safeguards those providers offer for such transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- On your phone: until you delete it or remove the app. We never hold it, so there is nothing for us to retain.
- Analytics and feedback (PostHog): for the retention period of our PostHog plan, which can be up to seven years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. It’s one email, and we’d rather delete it than keep it against your wishes.
- Purchase records (RevenueCat): for as long as you have Premium, plus the period we need to keep financial records.
- Email: for as long as needed to help you and keep a record of the conversation.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Delete what’s on your phone. Settings → Delete everything on this device erases your log, notes, streak, settings and saved feedback, cancels your reminders, and gives the app a fresh analytics identifier. Deleting the app does the same. Your Premium subscription is not affected and can be restored.
- Delete analytics we hold. Open Settings → Privacy, tap Analytics identifier to copy it, and email it to support@camellia.studio. We’ll delete the events and profile stored under it, including any feedback, and confirm when it’s done, within 30 days. Because Delete everything and reinstalling both create a new identifier, copy the identifier first if you want the earlier data removed too.
- Reminders. Turn them off in Settings, or in your phone’s notification settings, at any time.
- Premium. Manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account.
- This site. Clear or block cookies and site data in your browser. To have site analytics deleted, email us.
Security
Everything that leaves your phone or browser travels over encrypted connections (TLS), and access to our PostHog and RevenueCat dashboards is limited to the team and protected by sign-in. Your log is protected by your phone’s own security. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach of data we hold ever affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Children
Outgoing is for people aged 13 and over, as our Terms of Service say, and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, email support@camellia.studio with the analytics identifier from their device and we will delete what we hold.
Your US state privacy rights
If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect (it is all listed above), to get a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
To use any of these rights, email support@camellia.studio. Because we hold no account in your name, we verify a request against the analytics identifier shown in the app. We respond within 30 days.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We don’t track you across other apps or websites and don’t sell or share data for advertising, so the app and this site already behave the way those signals ask. The site’s own first-party analytics do not change in response to them.
Your rights in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Camellia Studios LLC is the controller of the data described here. Our legal bases are legitimate interests for usage analytics on the app and the site (understanding and improving a product with no accounts, using a random identifier and no advertising), performance of a contract for confirming purchases and delivering replies and configuration, and your consent for anything you choose to send us, such as feedback, which you can withdraw at any time by asking us to delete it. None of this is required by law, and feedback, reminders and Premium are always optional.
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, including the right to object to analytics based on legitimate interests. Email support@camellia.studio and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update this page and the effective date at the top. If a change is material, such as a new kind of data or a new provider, we will say so prominently here and in the app’s release notes before it takes effect.
